DIY Board & Batten Wall

Alright, months ago I did a board and batten wall in my entry way. Since then I realized it wasn’t my best work, and I wanted it bigger.. so I set out to redo it. This time I promised I would TRY to explain how for all those who asked.

Read at own risk, as I do a lot of projects but I am horrible at trying to explain how I did it all. I get really into the moment and forget to stop and take photos, etc. So here’s a try at it. Hope it makes sense to you.

First, pick a spot, make youre measurements based on how tall and long you want it, etc.

For me, this was my measurements.

Second, once you figured out all your measurements-time to get all the crap you’ll need.

I recommend you go to Home Depot and hunt down these. They are 8ft long, and with doing 4ft high boards you get two out of one. These are really good condition so don’t require much sanding if any which is a plus to me-less work.

I got about 6 of them and it was the perfect amount.

Third, cut and nail your stuff. (Home Depot can cut your wood if you can’t, I believe it’s like 25cents a cut) Use some fun wood glue for an extra hold, and nail in all your boards. A brad nailer is great for this, but mine broke so a old fashioned hammer and nails it was, joy.

Be sure to use a leveling tool to help make sure your boards are leveled. Use your measuring tape like it’s your favorite toy. Use it constantly, (Measure twice-cut once)

Once all your boards are up and you’re somewhat happy with how they look, culk it. Cover them holes, make it look like it’s one big piece and not like 50 different boards nailed together. You want to give the allusion that you’re amazing at this.

When it’s dry, sand away extra messy culk and paint.

For the top I added some chalk paint to add names, etc. My favorite part and made this board and batten a little different than the normal. Turned out pretty cute I think so added that chalk paint.

If you’ve never used chalk paint before, it’s honestly like regular paint just feels thicker.
When the chalk paint is dry, set it. Cover it in chalk-then erase it all. I don’t know why, just do it, don’t argue.

Well. You made it this far with a confused look on your face. Congrats. It’s done.

Awwwww, doesn’t she just look like crap? So proud.

Independence Hotel

There's something so amazing about discovering gems in your hometown.  One of them being the wonderful Independence Hotel! We had a wonderful stay in the Junior Suite! Everything was so nice and updated in this room. With two very comfortable queen size beds, beautiful views of the river and downtown, and it was right across from a really nice playground for the kids.  Our room offered a full-size refrigerator, seating area, wet bar with sink, and wonderful robes to wear down to the hot tub . Yes, you read that right, a hot tub! There's  even a very nice gym and bike amenities. My favorite part of our stay at this hotel though? I will forever remember and love the spectacular views from the rooftop patio. It was nice to grab a coffee & some breakfast from their restaurant and head up to the rooftop deck to enjoy the breath-taking views of the Willamette River. The kids enjoyed relaxing at the huge firepit! (Pssssst. I have to tell you, if you plan to stay, stay during Inde

What Happened.. pt1

I’m going to tell you a story. Some of you know, some of you don’t. For those who don’t I’m telling my story as it’s still happening 4 years later. So I’m going to lay it all out on the table. I was pregnant with a baby girl, not Emma, her name was Makayla. I went to my regular ob appointment and I was told during my ultrasound something was wrong. She had a defect with her skull. I had never heard about this defect until that day, so I had no idea how serious it was. So when I was asked if I wanted to terminate I said no because I didn’t understand. Why would I terminate my child so easily without even knowing really why? So though I didn’t get why it was so bad by what my doctor was saying, it seemed pretty serious so I posted in a mom group asking for some prayers, that they were getting me an appointment with a specialist to see how serious her defect really was. My appointment wasn’t for a couple of days. Waiting for the appointment we did so much research on her de

SNAPTAIN DRONE

"Say hello to my little friend" SNAPTAIN  sent me their SP510 Drone and let me tell you, I'm so in love with it. It has been so much fun. Ive always wanted a drone, they bring photography and taking videos to a whole new level. There's so many places I want to take my SP510 and play around with it. I think the beach is our next step! Imagine how beautiful the video would be of the beach at sunset though a drone, ahhhh, lovely. Check out the Drone  HERE Drones are not only fun, but can also record and photograph beautiful moments at anywhere at anytime. As a mother I really love that part. We mamas always want a way to capture those memories we have with our children. With me always behind the camera, that can be difficult, but thanks to my new little Drone friend here- I now have a little help with that. Some things I loved the most about the Snaptain SP510 Drone was of course, the camera/video features it has. Certain hand gestures let t
