Independence Hotel

There's something so amazing about discovering gems in your hometown.
One of them being the wonderful Independence Hotel!

We had a wonderful stay in the Junior Suite! Everything was so nice and updated in this room. With two very comfortable queen size beds, beautiful views of the river and downtown, and it was right across from a really nice playground for the kids. Our room offered a full-size refrigerator, seating area, wet bar with sink, and wonderful robes to wear down to the hot tub.

Yes, you read that right, a hot tub! There's even a very nice gym and bike amenities.

My favorite part of our stay at this hotel though? I will forever remember and love the spectacular views from the rooftop patio. It was nice to grab a coffee & some breakfast from their restaurant and head up to the rooftop deck to enjoy the breath-taking views of the Willamette River. The kids enjoyed relaxing at the huge firepit!

(Pssssst. I have to tell you, if you plan to stay, stay during Independece Day. The views for the firework show from the rooftop deck are a core-memory)

We got to try & enjoy the food at Territory Restaurant which I highly recommend on your stay here, or even if you're in the area. It's a definite must try.
I got to say, the Chicken Marsala was incredible. The kids devoured some yummy mac-n-cheese and cheeseburgers, while my husband tried their fish & chips. Each one of use was stuffed and happy.

(See that beautiful view while you eat at the Riverfront patio, so pretty, right?)
The lobby also has an open design of views of the river for if you don't want to eat outside.

Of course you have to try their dessert!
Their oversized skillet chocolate chip cookie was HUGE and so worth it, wow.

Being so close to downtown, we got to explore all the fun shops and even grabbed some ice-cream at Independent Ice Cream Shop As you can imagine, the kids were thrilled.
With so many flavors how do you choose?

Before dinner as it finally quit raining and was a pretty nice day, we played at the park. I love having a park so close by, made staying so much easier when you have kids. It's their favorite park.

(Thats the hotel in the background, see how close you are?! Perfect for when staying with kids.)

Thank you so much to everyone at Independence Hotel, we had a wonderful time. The staff were so friendly, I appreciate them for all they did to make our stay relaxing and enjoyable. I'm very thankful and can't wait to come back! it's such a beautiful hotel in an amazing town! Oregon really does have its little treasures.

DIY Stove Cover!

Recently I posted about a stove cover I had made for my new glass top stove. I received a lot of comments and DMs asking how I made it, so this for blog post today I will be explaining how.. At Home Depot I picked up a 1x6  and a 1x4  board. (Cut list) With the 1x6 I cut 4 boards to 29 1/2 inch long each. With the 1x4 board I cut 2 boards at 22inch each. *Measure your stove to be sure of your exact cuts* (Build) With the 29 1/2inch boards for the length of my stove, I attached them all together using wood glue. I then used the 1x4 boards for the sides. Used wood glue to attach the boards and wait for that to dry. Once the glue was dry I went in with my  Ryobi Brad Nailer  to secure the 1x4 boards to the rest. I left a few wood cracks as I love the imperfections of the wood look. You can feel free use culk to cover it all. I then went in with my sander really thoroughly to get the edges and everything smooth. (Decorate) What happens next is up to you. Paint, sa...

Never Grow Up

I constantly go between wanting my kids to be little forever, and being excited about all the things they’ll do in this life. When your kids are little, you are so loved—smothered, even. So much that sometimes you need to come up for air. But those little kids that need you so much end up pulling away completely left you wondering when they grew up so fast! When they sit on your lap or crawl in bed with you, you have no idea if it will be the last time. Today may be the last day your baby wants to nurse. It may be the last time they need you to lie down with them when they have a bad dream. It may be the last year they want you to hold their hand walking them to school. It's funny how the same moments that make us want our child to be a bit more independent can make us the most nostalgic when those moments are over. But...  There will come a day when they start thanking you for all you've done. There will come a day when they ask you for relationship advice. There will come ...

DIY Board & Batten Wall

Alright, months ago I did a board and batten wall in my entry way. Since then I realized it wasn’t my best work, and I wanted it bigger.. so I set out to redo it. This time I promised I would TRY to explain how for all those who asked. Read at own risk, as I do a lot of projects but I am horrible at trying to explain how I did it all. I get really into the moment and forget to stop and take photos, etc. So here’s a try at it. Hope it makes sense to you. First, pick a spot, make youre measurements based on how tall and long you want it, etc. For me, this was my measurements.   Second, once you figured out all your measurements-time to get all the crap you’ll need. I recommend you go to Home Depot and hunt down these. They are 8ft long, and with doing 4ft high boards you get two out of one. These are really good condition so don’t require much sanding if any which is a plus to me-less work. I got about 6 of them and it was the perfect amount. Third, cut and nail your stuff. (Ho...
